Paradise at the Edge of the Ocean!!

The view when you walk into this unit is absolutely stunning! The condo was immaculate and modernly updated, spacious and homey. Fully furnished with comfortable living and bedroom furniture. We loved having access to our own kitchen and having a convenient BBQ to use was an added bonus. The condo is amazingly stocked with beach gear, towels, a cooler bag and kitchen items. There wasn't anything that we were missing during our stay. The owners have thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. Makena Surf is conveniently located close to some of the best beaches on the island, shopping, restaurants and activities. The snorkeling was fantastic with colorful fish and many sea turtles. This was a beautiful unit in a great complex that is secure and quiet. If a relaxing vacation is what you're looking for, than look no further, this is the place for you!!

Could be perfect with a few improvements

My husband and I recently (5/28 - 6/4) returned from a stay in Makena Surf E-206. First, I want to say that were very impressed with so much about the unit, including its amazing location (beachfront), its spectacular decor (bamboo, granite, etc.), its cleanliness, and its bountiful amenities (beach chairs, a coffee grinder, and so forth). E-206 really is a beautiful unit! Having said that, however, I do think improvements can be made that will enhance the experience of anyone who stays there. For example, while the beds were incredibly comfortable, the king-size pillows were simply awful. They were either so soft that they provided no head/neck support or they contained feathers (not down) that poked through the pillowcases. This is a simple fix. Also, the unit would benefit from some inexpensive make-up mirrors that could be stored beneath the bathroom vanities. Some of us are getting old and need a bit of magnification! Like the pillows, this is a simple fix. Another simple fix involves replacing the gasket on the washer: there’s mildew all over it and it smells awful. Frankly, had I not found it necessary, I wouldn’t have put my clothes in it. In addition, it was surprising to us that such a high-end rental offered such low-end TV viewing options (mostly non-HD, with only very basic cable). Let’s be honest: Unlike Miami, South Maui doesn’t have a “hopping nightlife.” Most vacationers to Wailea and its environs will spend the majority of their post-beach evenings back at the rental/hotel. As a result, HD TV with enhanced channel options (SHO, HBO, etc.) seems like a no-brainer. Even Disney (a company that wants to get park-goers out of the room so they can spend more money) offers better TV viewing possibilities! In a related area, I want to mention that neither the living room furniture nor the lanai furniture is very comfortable: While the living room furniture could use ottomans (at least), the chaise lounges on the lanai really could use some cushions. When you just want to hang out and relax or watch the ocean (we do -- a lot), you need comfy furniture. Finally, we saw several people who were staying at Makena Surf bothering the sea turtles as they swam in the waters right in front of the resort (with one even attempting to place her infant on top of a turtle). I’d like to suggest that your ohana include in its condos a laminated card that informs renters that touching or harassing sea turtles is against the law.

Mahalo for sharing your review with us. We have passed this on to the homeowner and maintenance team for future improvements. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Enjoy a wonderful rest of the year!
